4 NAMI’s mission NAMI provides advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.

5 NAMI’s vision NAMI envisions a world where all persons affected by mental illness experience resiliency, recovery and wellness.

6 Central beliefs Mental illnesses are illnesses like any other Stigma is real and has terrible consequences Both the individual and the family are essential to the recovery process Education and support for families and people with mental illness make substantial differences in outcomes, recovery and resilience With appropriate treatment and services, people can and do recover from mental illness
