Normally TBs will be on monday and EBs on friday of the same week as VC’s note that EB was yesterday and TB will be next monday 2. VCs will be at 15:00 UK time (i.e. 14:00GMT in summer and 15:00 GMT in winter) 3. CM28 program will be organized by Roumen Tsenov and Linda Coney…

Spectrometer Solenoids some news 1.from the magnet itself. (By Steve Virostek) The magnet has been opened and the failed lead found. It was in the single superconducting wire just on the inside of the feedthrough (as suspected). At some point, this section of conductor went normal and likely burned out fairly quickly. There was no other damage near the feedthrough. Due to the original fabrication geometry, the 1.5 inches or so of superconductor adjacent to the feedthrough could not be doubled up with copper conductor. Bert Wang (vendor) has now found a way to do this, so the added copper should provide a better conduction path for cooling, better support, and lower resistance when the conductor is normal. Of course, we will want to have expert opinions on this matter before we approve Bert's design solution. Good news: this is an understood fabrication weakness Bad news: the other magnet needs fixing as well.

Spectrometer solenoid – more news 2. the report from the Fermilab review team has now been issued. many recommendations (see next slide). -- Magnet is not badly built, -- Emphasis on need for follow up thermal and magnetic modeling and performance monitoring and recording. Report will be used as basis for a costing (also in man-months) of the various items and to form a plan for recovery. Just making the plan is a labor intensive job. The need for more manpower on this project was emphasized several times LBNL are looking for additional manpower. -- Li Wang’s group for calculations, -- new cryogenist Fermilab is also trying to find solutions to help. As recommended by MICE EB, Andy has looked around at RAL UK; Roy Preece of STFC could help with -- 1) constructing the recovery plan and -- 2) possibly to assist after that point detailed discussions with Steve Virostek have started

MICE Schedule Andy Nichols stresses that detailed schedule milestones for the solenoid cannot be discussed until the current lead problem is diagnosed (done) and the recovery plan written and agreed. This is clearly the next step Until then: please use the “MICE schedule as of March 2010”

Other news -- magnetic measurement (for Focus coil and Spectrometer Solenoid either at Vendor or at RAL) team from CERN enthusiastically started to study the problem. Felix Bergsma, Pierre-Ange Giudici et al will visit RAL on 13-14 September.
