1 Beat Gerber, Swiss Representative EPPCN – LHC Communication 1 LHC Communication in Switzerland Review 2008 – Outlook 2009  Media impact First Beam, 10 September: very large coverage in all media (press, TV, radio, Web), Switzerland did certainly profit as a homebase of CERN, also very intensive coverage in advance of the event (mainly about black holes and the upcoming apocalypse)  Media impact World LHC Computing Grid goes online, 3 October: smaller media coverage  Media impact LHC Inauguration Ceremony, 21 October: quite a large coverage despite the shutdown of the machine

2 Beat Gerber, Swiss Representative EPPCN – LHC Communication 2 LHC Communication in Switzerland Fundraising for action plan:  funds received from ETH Board to build up a Swiss LHC Website (www.swiss-lhc.ch),www.swiss-lhc.ch  letters of refusal from several foundations (reasons: too large international project, black holes not good for publicity),  promise of the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research for a base funding of the LHC communication in Switzerland (about 30'000 Euro per year)
