2 Agenda: Do Now: 1) Take out your “show don’t tell” homework. 2) Share one of your “show don’t tell” passages with a neighbor.

3 Agenda: Show Don’t Tell: 1)It was sunny on the water and I saw mountains. The boat bobbed up and down in the gentle waves. The afternoon sun was high in the sky and the water sparkled like a million diamonds thrown against a fluid sapphire canvas. However, my attention was drawn to the massive mountains that loomed in the distance. I stared with determination at the peaks and thought of how far I had come from the first time I climbed the fake plastic holds on the ten foot climbing wall at my local gym. The rhythmic motion of the boat and my thoughts were perfectly in sync and I felt as if anything was possible.

4 Agenda: Looking Ahead: Monday: Practice Listening Yesterday: Show Don’t Tell Exercises Today: Practice using Dialogue Thursday: Computer Lab Friday: Computer Lab Final Draft of Personal Essay Due Sunday by 11:59pm

5 Agenda: Using Dialogue: 1)In a pet store: he wants a cat; she does not. Briefly describe the cat in question. The orange calico cat would have been considered ugly by most. Its face was flat, its ears were lopsided, its head was slightly bald, and its eyes bulged like a gold fish. “Oh my god!!! Look at how amazing that cat is,” Said Mr. Gino. “We are not getting it,” she responded shortly. “I can’t believe how big its eyes are,” Mr. Gino exclaimed. “And that bald patch reminds me of Mr. Kaplan.” “No” “It’s free.” “It’s the cat or me,” she responded. There was a moment of silence as Mr. Gino looked back and forth between her and the cat. He was seriously weighing his options. “I’m going to name it Sapphire,” Mr. Gino said proudly.
