1 Origin of “Education of the Future” 1. Library participates in campus-level initiatives focused on Teaching and Learning: Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL), Madison Initiative for Undergraduates. 2. Library and Academic Technology establish the E-Text Study Group. 3. Study group partners with the Provost to pool one-time money to foster and disseminate innovative models.

2 The Internet Changes Everything The Internet and search engines like Google provide us with instantaneous access to a world of information that is wide and deep, constantly changing, and sometimes contradictory. With the Google world, we can move more easily from a traditional information-exchange model of education to one based on socially constructed learning—where we work with students to construct the knowledge that’s at the heart of the educational experience. --- Education of the Future CFP

3 Strategic Areas Sophisticated websites that might become the “textbooks” of the future and that drive forward the materials needed for socially constructed learning. New modes of instruction that place socially constructed learning at the center of standard course formats. New kinds of experiences that use and apply socially constructed learning to solve complex problems.

4 Library Goals Refine models for participation on consulting teams for course redesign and other projects Deliver support customized to project goals and needs of instructor, assignment and course Showcase librarian expertise extending beyond assigned librarians’ areas of work Improve reporting and dissemination focused on project outcomes. Seek out models that are sustainable, scalable, and replicable beyond the time line and one-time funding of the project. --- Librarian Consulting Agreement
