About PSU’s  Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) are companies owned by the Union or any state government of India by virtue of shareholding a majority, meaning at least 51% shares of the company equity.  These undertakings range between large varieties of business including service, manufacturing, agricultural, mining sectors among others where the companies function like private corporations but share its profits with the Government. V.P.Katekar

Why PSU’s choose GATE? PSU’s like Power Grid, NTPC, BPCL, HPCL, GAIL etc have started accepting GATE qualified applicants because the test not only examines the technical skills, but also the logical and analytical ability of a person. Basic aptitude tests don’t say much about the competence of a candidate. GATE is an assurance of the applicant’s potential to get selected for recruitment procedure. One needs to be very strong in fundamentals while appearing for the exam this time, as repetition from previous years question pattern is highly unlikely. Securing good grades in GATE is an important criterion to get qualified for different Government Organizations and to embark on the journey of attaining highly coveted jobs in PSU’s. V.P.Katekar

GATE Is it a Technical Exam? Graduate Aptitude test in Engineering Name it self Says It is Aptitude test in Engineering V.P.Katekar

Marks = Tells how much you got out of 100 Rank= Tells your position (how much students before you) Percentile= Tells how much students behind you (0-100) Gate Score= Intellectual level of student (used for admission) (0 to 1000) Gate Result Marks……… Rank……….. Percentile… Gate Score.. V.P.Katekar

GATE Percentile Score The percentile score of a candidate indicates the percentage of candidates who appeared in the same paper and scored less marks than him/her. It is calculated as follows: ((Total No of Students appeared in your subject- Your Rank)/(Total No of students-1))*100 Suppose 200000 people appeared in the exam Example 1 Your rank is 100 Percentile = ((200000-100)/(200000-1))*100 = 99.95% Example 2 Your rank is 1 Percentile = ((200000-1)/(200000-1))*100 = 100% Example 3 Your rank is 200000 Percentile = ((200000-200000)/(200000-1))*100 = 0% V.P.Katekar

the GATE score is computed from S = Sq + ( S t - S q ) ( M - M q ) / ( M t - M q ) where, S = GATE Score (normalised) of a candidate, M = Marks obtained by a candidate in a paper, M q = Qualifying marks for general category candidates in the paper, M t = Average Marks of top 0.1% or 10 (which ever is higher) of candidates in the paper, S t = GATE Score assigned to M t (around 900), and S q = GATE Score assigned to M q (around 300). M q is usually 25 marks (out of 100) or μ+σ, whichever is higher. Here μ is the mean of marks in a paper and σ is the standard deviation. V.P.Katekar

GATE Score Range Ability Level 800 to 1000Outstanding 675 to 800Excellent 550 to 675Very good 425 to 550Good 300 to 425Above average 100 to 300Average Below 100Below average The Maximum Score can be 1000. V.P.Katekar

How the GATE Cut Off Marks 2014 will be Calculated: GATE 2015 Cut Off = Total Marks Obtained by all Students/ Total No. of Students. ME22,367 Mechanical Engineering 32.7329.4621.82 GATE Paper Code No of Candidat es Appeared GATE Paper Qualifying Marks (General) Qualifying Marks (OBCNCL) Qualifying Marks (SC/ST/PwD) V.P.Katekar

Multiple Choice QuestionsNumerical Questions These questions carry 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections. They are objective in nature with a choice of four answers, out of which the candidate has to mark the correct answer(s). These questions carry 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections. The answer for these questions is a real number There will be no choices given for these questions Candidates must key in the answer using the virtual keypad (The keyboard of the computer will be disabled). Types of Questions in GATE 2016: There will be a total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks V.P.Katekar

Exam Pattern for GATE-2016 Marking Scheme There will be negative marking. For 1-mark questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. For 2-mark questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer There is no negative marking for Numerical questions V.P.Katekar

How to tackle the paper Start the paper with one-mark question Then go to Two-marks questions from Common Data and Linked Answer Questions. Then go to General Aptitude section. All these should be done in a timeframe of 100-110 minutes. Now go to questions in the technical portion and we can allot 50 minutes to this comfortably. At the end, you must have 15-20 minutes for a quick revision of the answer sheet to ensure all is in order. While attempting the paper, leave questions which you are not sure of. The most deciding factor is negative marking. Avoid making any guesses and try to eliminate choices by analysis and calculations. V.P.Katekar

Benefits of Taking GATE: A good GATE score is helpful for getting admission in to IITs, IISC, IIITs, NITs and many other renowned institutions. GATE qualification is also a minimum requirement to apply for various fellowships awarded by many Government organizations. GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories and CSIR sponsored projects. Focused GATE Preparation also helps in other prestigious PSU recruitment examinations like CIL, AP Genco, AP Transco, NTPC, BSNL etc Many Private Companies asked GATE Score during interview V.P.Katekar

Benefits of M. Tech: M. Tech from a good institute helps you to stand out from the rest M. Tech opens up a lot of career paths in the fields of Teaching, Research and other Core sectors, apart from the existing alternatives A Minimum stipend of 8000/- per month is given to regular students joining colleges under MHRD Opportinity to work in research positions like JRFs, in ISRO/DRDO/BARC/IITs etc M. Tech gives chance to pursue specializations of interest V.P.Katekar
