Warm-up: 9/9 Factor the following polynomials a.) b.) c.)

Objective: To divide polynomials by long division or Synthetic division. Essential Question: When is it appropriate to use long division Or synthetic division to divide polynomials? 9/9 Dividing a polynomial by a monomial:
3
Divide a polynomial by a non-linear polynomial: a.) Put both polynomials in Standard form, (use zeros if missing a term) b.) Divide the first term of the dividend by the first term of the divisor and line up terms. c.) Multiply d.) Subtract e.) Bring down f.) Repeat
4
Divide a polynomial by a linear binomial Using synthetic division: a.) write in synthetic division form with All place values and no variables. Set the divisor equal to zero to get the number out front. b.) Bring down first coefficient. c.) Multiply and add. Repeat until you run out of numbers. d.) Result is the coefficients in order by one less degree.
