2. Chief Seattle Speech What does Chief Seattle say about buying/owning the land? How is this similar or different than Emerson’s views? What does Chief Seattle say about man’s relation to nature? How is this similar or different than Emerson? What does Chief Seattle say about man’s relation to beasts? How does Chief Seattle feel about the possibility of losing his tribe? What does he say about man’ (red and white’s) relation to God? Which essay/speech on nature do you think was the most effective? Why?

3. Journal What are your thoughts on nature? What do you think our relation to nature is today? Do we have any responsibility to preserve it for future generations?

4. Global Warming Debate Get with your group and outline your argument. Come up with a thesis. Think about: What is global warming? Is it actually happening? Is there a cause? Are humans to blame? Is it just a natural evolutionary cycle of earth? Come up with evidence from your articles to support your thesis. Analyze your evidence. Be able to explain why! Think of arguments the other side is going to present, and be able to refute them.

5. After the debate… What are your thoughts on the topic now? Did they change? Why or why not? What do you think nature’s role in this is now? Do you have a different perspective? Do you think there is a solution? What do you think the Earth will look like in future generations?
