2 What is ProCost? 2 It’s the Council’s energy efficiency measure cost- effectiveness model Calculates costs and benefits for EE measures Produces a wide range of results, from different perspectives Developed in MS Excel using various worksheets and the Visual Basic macro functions. Who uses ProCost? The Council: to develop the supply curves for the regional power plans The RTF: for measure and program cost-effectiveness analysis Others including utility personnel, consultants, etc. The current version is “2.3 Build 257f”

3 ProCost Structure 3 Excel Workbooks Excel Worksheets The main ProCost file contains the ProCost VB macro and performs all the calculations. The MC_And_Loadshape file contains data that is read into ProCost.

11 User Defined Time Segments (cont.) 11 Challenges: MC_AND_LOADSHAPE file size Current model requires 8760 segments X 20 years for each load shape Separate MC file for each segment type (e.g., 48 and 8760 segments) Current 8760 segment MC file contains just 3 load shapes for testing plus all 20 year price forecasts (65 MB) Suggested calendar function will reduce data to a single year X 8760 segments Estimated file size = 64 MB (1 year X 8760 segments X 200 load shapes) Additional options to reduce file size by condensing data to 1 worksheet 8760 runtime MC file takes approx. 45 sec. to open + additional 45 sec. to run ProCost Static versus dynamic arrays – kept static, but using dynamic could improve efficiency Precision – reduced arrays to single precision from double
