2 A Bit About Me Live in Snoqualmie, married to a teacher Master’s in Biomechanics 18 th year in district (taught 5 th -8 th grade) Elementary Summer School Coordinator for 10 years Taught at UC Santa Cruz in the PE Department and was the Athletic Director for 18 years

3 6 th Grade TechSmart This course examines the changing world of technology. Working with Internet tools, digital pictures, video, and desktop applications, students explore different 21 st Century topics. Students learn how technology is used within the context of various science and design topics. Successful completion of this required course satisfies the high school technology graduation requirement.

4 TechSmart Curriculum Introduction to TechSmart  Be cybersmart  Be private  Know tech basics History of Technology Computer Programming and Gaming  Students will create a simple computer game using "Scratch.“ Information Analysis - Data Challenge!  Students learn spreadsheets and databases and how they can be used to help make decisions

5 TechSmart Curriculum Earth Science  Students will gain basic understanding of energy and the sources of renewable energy that can be used to produce electricity.  They will use Google Earth to map the locations of renewable energy plants in Washington State. Digital Storytelling  Students will learn about telling a story using digital media.

6 Keyboarding Students will also become more proficient at the keyboard by using All the Right Type each week.

7 Grading Each unit contains quizzes, short answer essays and other activities. Students will also be graded on larger projects. Points will vary for each. There will be some group and some individual projects Follow IMS grading scale If students try hard and work well with others, they should earn an A or B.

8 Homework The class is designed for in-class work. There will be minimal homework. However, if a student needs extra time, most activities can be saved on a Flash Drive and finished at home (if computer access exists) If not, students can use homeroom, library at lunch or after school.
