List of Items We brought in the following items: Mousetrap 2 Rat Traps Bucket Funnel Box Marbles Small Tennis Ball Pulley Jug Rope Wire Duct Tape

Quick Summary Mouse trap launches tennis ball Tennis ball funneled onto rat trap Rat trap releases marbles Marbles trigger second rat trap Rat trap releases water valve Water flows from bucket into bottle Bottle pulls on pulley which activates stereo

Equations Projectile Motion (tennis ball) y-y1=(x-x1)*tan(theta)-(g/(2*v^2))(1+tan^2(theta))(x-x1)^2.5-0=(1-0)*tan(60)-9.8/(2*v^2)(1+tan^2(60))(1-0)^2 v=sqrt((-9.8*(1+tan^2(60))/(.5-tan(60)))/2) With this calculation our initial velocity comes out to be 3.989 m/s, a plausible result Rotational Motion (valve) θ 2 = θ 1 +((ώ 1 + ώ 2 )/2)*t PI/2=0+((ώ 1 +0)/2)*.3 5PI/3=ώ 1 /2 Initial rotational velocity= 10PI/3 rad/s Potential Energy (traps) 1/2k(Δx) 2 Potential Energy (water) mgh

Stored energy Most all of our stored energy comes from our traps. They fling the ball, pull the wire, and open the valve. The only other energy in effect is gravitational. Gravitational energy pulls the ball down into the box, the marbles down the pipe, and the jug towards the ground.

Problems As mentioned earlier, our biggest problem came from the step with the spear. It seemed like it would work individually but there were just too many variables affecting it to work consistently. Another main problem we ran into was the water weighing down our bucket valve. To fix this we made a track out of pvc for it to slide along.

Conclusions We spent a good amount of time on this project but, while frustrating at times, it was definitely a fun one so the time went by quickly. Being able to apply it makes engineering so much more engaging than doing written work
