2 Samuel 24 What has your faith cost you?

Define - Sacrifice Animal sacrifice – give up their life Grain, meal sacrifice – to give what you could have sold, used, eaten, or traded for something of value SACRIFICE – to give up something of value Not a sacrifice:  If you give away what you don't want  Sell a low cost in a garage sale  Get rid of stuff, give to charitible place

Define - Sacrifice Dictionary - “The surrender or destruction of something prized or desirable for the sake of something considered as having higher or more pressing claim.” “To surrender or give up, or permit injury or disadvantage to, for the sake of something else”

2 Samuel 24:1-2 1 Again the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel, and He moved David against them to say, "Go, number Israel and Judah." 2 So the king said to Joab the commander of the army who was with him, "Now go throughout all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, and count the people, that I may know the number of the people."

2 Samuel 24:10 And David's heart condemned him after he had numbered the people. So David said to the Lord, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done; but now, I pray, O Lord, take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have done very foolishly."

2 Samuel 24:10 And David's heart condemned him after he had numbered the people. So David said to the Lord, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done; but now, I pray, O Lord, take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have done very foolishly."

2 Samuel 24:18-19 18 And Gad came that day to David and said to him, "Go up, erect an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite." 19 So David, according to the word of Gad, went up as the Lord commanded.

Here is what David did: Wanted to buy the threshing floor Then Araunah said, "Why has my lord the king come to his servant?" And David said, "To buy the threshing floor from you, to build an altar to the Lord, that the plague may be withdrawn from the people." 2 Samuel 24:21

Here is what was offered: Was offered oxen, wood, everything for the sacrifice Now Araunah said to David, "Let my lord the king take and offer up whatever seems good to him. Look, here are oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing implements and the yokes of the oxen for wood. 2 Samuel 24:22

Here is David's answer: David's response – NO! Then the king said to Araunah, "No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 2 Samuel 24:24

Sacrifice in the NT NT Christians are to sacrifice 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2

Sacrifice in the NT Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. Philippians 2:17 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. Hebrews 11:4

Sacrifice in the NT 15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. 16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Hebrews 13:15-16
