2 Today’s Goals By the end of the period, I will: have considered at least two or three possible topics that interest me have started to list some questions that I want to explore

3 It’s all about process… the Inquiry Process! Focus Select a topic of interest and ask real questions. 1 Explore Find the resources you need…and keep track of where you found it! 2 Analyze Interpret and evaluate the information you find. 3 Communicate Report what you find. Give credit where credit is due. 4

4 Focusing in on a topic… What interests me? What do I already know about this topic? How do I know this? What do I need to verify? What new information do I need to find? What do I think I might discover? Focus Select a topic of interest and ask real questions. 1

5 What interests me… What am I curious about? What is important to me? What are people in the “real world” talking & writing about? What’s happening in the news? BROWSE for ideas…take time to consider your options Focus Select a topic of interest and ask real questions. 1

6 Where to browse… Non-fiction & Reference collections, especially in the 300s Magazines – Transition, Canadian Social Trends Online Teen Health & Wellness database InfoTrac’s Opposing Viewpoints TUFT’s Child & Family web guide

7 Today’s task… Browse take time to consider the possibilities before locking yourself into a topic after today’s browsing period, we will post a list of other possible topics on the Assignments page Ticket out the door/homework for next day: What is your question/topic? What do I already know about this topic? How do I know this? What do I need to verify? What new information do I need to find? What do I think I might discover? Remember: make sure you can ask people questions (survey, interview) about your topic!
