2 The Marsupials The marsupials are animals which carry their babies in a pouch (like the kangaroo), in which they grow. Here are several examples of marsupials.

3 The Tasmanian Devil

4 The Tasmanian Devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) is a carnivorous marsupial now found in the wild only in the Australian island state of Tasmania. It has the size of a small dog but it’s stocky and muscular. It is characterised by its black fur, pungent odour when stressed, and ferocity when feeding. It eats every sort of meat,like insects,birds and fish.

5 The Koala

6 The koala lives in Queensland,New South Wales,Victoria and South Australia.It lives, eats and sleeps in eucalyptus trees.The koala lives almost entirely on eucalyptus leaves.

7 It is broadly similar in appearance to the wombat , but has a thicker coat, much larger ears, and longer limbs. The koala has large, sharp claws to assist with climbing tree trunks. Weight varies from about 14 kg for a large southern male, to about 5 kg for a small northern female.

The kangaroo is the national emblem of Australia.The kangaroo is a nocturnal animal. The kangaroo is herbivorous and insectivorous.There are many sorts of kangaroos.Here are severals sorts of kangaroos… The red kangarooo is the largest surviving marsupial anywhere in Australia. A large male can be 2 metres tall and weigh 90 kgs. Kangaroos are the only large animals to use hopping as a means of locomotion .

10 These shy animals live about 6 years in the wild and up to 20 in captivity.They are in danger of extinction, but they are also considered pests.Females have a pouch in which their babies grow up. The hopping speed for a Red Kangaroo is about 20–25 km/h ,but speeds of up to 70 km/h can be attained, over short distances, while it can sustain a speed of 40 km/h for nearly two kilometres.
