Africana Section/Special Collection The whole of Africana/Special Collection is Closed Access and houses the following materials: Books, periodicals related to East Africa and on Uganda in particular. General books on Africa and other documents on Uganda, deposited mainly as a result of the Legal Deposit Act, which requires every publisher and author of a book in and about Uganda to deposit a copy to Makerere University Library.

Africana: Special Collection Pamphlets > Microfilms (periodicals, manuscripts & theses > Archives & Manuscripts – range from institutional to individual archives (e.g.Uganda protectorate, Church missionaries, Buganda govt., Memoirs;Individual manuscripts i.e. Ham Mukasa, Apollo Kivebulaya, Kaddu Mukasa.) Newspapers (Ugandan dating as far back as 1901 e.g. Munno)
