WHY STRIKE ON MARCH 26 ?!... because when we act together we can protect teachers and education... Regional action was solidly supported in 2013. Now we need to take national action together on March 26

WHY STRIKE ON MARCH 26 ?! Michael Gove still wants to cut our pay, pensions and conditions …. and our children’s education. He is still refusing to hold any meaningful talks

WHY STRIKE ON MARCH 26 ?! To win back our PENSIONS PAY MORE, GET LESS, RETIRE OLDER: Another increase in pension contributions this April

WHY STRIKE ON MARCH 26 ?! To stop teachers losing their pay progression through DIVISIVE DISCRIMINATORY PERFORMANCE- RELATED PAY

WHY STRIKE ON MARCH 26 ?! To stop our relentless WORKLOAD These are the DfE’s official workload diary figures

CAN I AFFORD TO STRIKE ? Can you afford NOT to strike? Being refused pay progression will cost you around £2,000 - and more in future. Taking ‘early retirement’ before 68 will rob £10,000’s from your final pension. Remember from the October strike, after tax a pay deduction is not as big as some feared. Please help colleagues in severe financial difficulties to join the strike by donating to local hardship funds

CAN WE WIN? YES. Our 2011 national strike action on pensions did force some concessions – e.g. making sure those 50 + can retire at 60 on their full pension. YES. The Review Body refused to support Gove’s attack on our holidays and directed hours. He is under pressure. YES. Local strikes have won victories over pay policies. Now we need to win national changes across every school.

GOVE IS FAILING EDUCATION There are lots of reasons why parents and the public will support a campaign to defend education from Gove’s attacks Help get our message to parents

SHOULD ALL NUT MEMBERS STRIKE? YES – we are legally protected by the ongoing national NUT strike ballot (but supply teachers may need to check their position). YES – we can stop Gove’s damaging attacks if we all take a stand together. YES - Pension calculations now mean that strike action has a negligible effect on the pensions of teachers nearing retirement. EXPLAIN to colleagues in other unions why the NUT is striking – ask for their support. ASK the NUT if you want clarification on any issue – or read the FAQs on the NUT website.

HOW CAN WE BUILD THE STRIKE ? 1.Talk with colleagues in schools. Hold a school meeting to build for action. 2.Support local activities like NUT meetings and public campaign stalls. 3.Encourage members to join strike rallies on the day. Some schools will hold picket-lines too.

Defend teachers and education... then prepare for more action until we make Gove think again!
