14 What were some important advances that the Sumerians made in new technology?

15 Sumerians created irrigation systems
They developed the plow, the sailboat, and the wheel. They made bronze tools and weapons.

16 How did the Sumerians’ forms of writing change over time?

17 The Sumerians first kept track of trade with tokens stored in clay bullae?
Later, they marked the outside of the bullae with symbols to show how many tokens were inside. These were pictographs, pictures that stand for words or ideas. Finally they developed the similar, wedge shaped symbols of cuneiform.

18 The following words of Hammurabi were carved on a large stone slab: “I have brought justice to all my subjects.” How is it true that Hammurabi brought justice to all his subjects? How is it not true?

19 Hammurabi developed an organized system of laws.
He made the laws available for everyone to read. Therefore, they could not be punished for no reason. The laws varied according to people’s positions in society.
