Step One: Standards Based Job Description Develop or review key functions categorized around Ohio Standards for Superintendents Review sample job descriptions Consult Ohio Revised Code Ohio Superintendent Evaluation System Ohio Standards for Superintendents 1. Vision, Continuous Improvement and Focus of District Work: Superintendents establish a vision, expect continuous improvement, and develop a focused plan for achieving district goals. 2. Communication and Collaboration: Superintendents establish processes to communicate and collaborate effectively. 3. Policies and Governance: Superintendents work with the board of education to identify, prioritize and set policies and governance procedures that maximize the success of all students. 4. Instruction: Superintendents lead the creation of instructional systems designed for high student achievement. 5. Resources: Superintendent manage and organize the district’s resources (human, fiscal, operational and material) to accomplish district goals. Step Two: Identify a Limited Number of Annual District Objectives Align with district goals Based on data or needs Develop Work Plans (Administrative Team) Outline activities Identify monitoring process Establish evaluation criteria Step Three: Conduct A Formative Assessment (Mid-Year): Monitor progress on annual district objectives Monitor performance on superintendent standards-based job description Step Four: Conduct a Summative Evaluation Summarize progress on annual district objectives Summarize performance on superintendent standards-based job description Monitor Progress
