Joint Information Systems Committee 05/06/2016 | Supporting education and research | Slide 2 Issues institutions need to address Policies, data and process review Systems to store data and output the HEAR Enable secure access and distribution of the HEAR

Joint Information Systems Committee Policies, data and process review Decide on policies related to production of the HEAR, e.g.: –What will be included under 6.1, and how will data be verified? –Format of HEAR output, and which is considered trusted proof –Will students be able to view their HEAR data while they are studying? –Will APEL information be included? –Components delivered by other providers? –Process for dealing with changes/errors –Inclusion and management of links in the HEAR –Retention of data –Historical course/module information

Joint Information Systems Committee Policies, data and process review Identify the data you need to populate the HEAR Is it all currently collected? (How?) How and where it is stored? Develop and implement processes and systems to ensure necessary data is collected, recorded, verified and collated –Integrate electronic systems and human-centred processes The HEAR readiness self-assessment framework highlights the areas you need to consider –www.igsl.co.uk/framework/hearwww.igsl.co.uk/framework/hear

Joint Information Systems Committee 05/06/2016 | Supporting education and research | Slide 5 Systems to collate and output HEAR data Will primarily be the student record system –Some data (eg course data) may be stored in a separate system Output formats: paper; electronic document (pdf); structured data file (XML) Need to enable student record system to produce the HEAR Student record system vendors are positive re initial technical requirements –Issue for SITS re historical module data Workgroup now starting with remit to produce full technical specification and implementation profile –Related to European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) Learner Mobility standard, due for ratification in autumn 2010 –Includes vendors and UCISA –Will also support in-house implementation Working with UCISA on further discussions with vendors and institutions with their own student records systems

Joint Information Systems Committee 05/06/2016 | Supporting education and research | Slide 6 Access and distribution Secure storage and access –Learners/alumni –Employers –Institutions –Recruitment agencies Models for the distribution architecture and access management –Range from integrated with SRS to 3 rd party solutions –http://wiki.cetis.ac.uk/Technical_architecture_considerations_for_implementing_the_HEARhttp://wiki.cetis.ac.uk/Technical_architecture_considerations_for_implementing_the_HEAR
