WARM UP What are the short names for Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion?

Newton’s Laws Project

NASA NEEDS YOUR HELP! A team of friendly aliens have landed on Earth! Unfortunately, these aliens are having a hard time getting adjusted to Earth’s motion and forces. NASA has been informed that in your science class you have been learning about Newton’s Laws of Motion and have chosen you to be on the panel of experts. As a member of NASA’s team you will be developing a visual presentation to help explain Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion.
4
Poster Project Identify Newton’s 3 Laws. State what each law is. Provide an illustrated example of the law. Explain how your illustration relates to the law.
5
Newton’s 1 st Law of Motion Objects will keep the same speed and direction unless acted on by a force. A person riding a bike that slows down while riding on a dirt road. The person slows down because the dirt road causes friction, changing the speed of the bike.
6
Newton’s 2 nd Law of Motion Force= Mass x Acceleration A pinball machine illustrates Newton’s 2 nd Law of Motion because a force is applied to the pinball when it comes in contact with the flippers. The more force applied, the faster the ball accelerates which also depends on the mass of the ball.
7
Newton’s 3 rd Law of Motion For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction The tennis ball and tennis rackets illustrate Newton’s 3 rd Law of Motion because the ball is bouncing back from the racket with the same amount of force that it hit the racket with.

Who was Newton anyway?
