3 Mass  What is Mass?  The measure of how much matter something contains.  Mass IS NOT Weight  Weight measures the force of gravity on something

5 Mass  How much is a gram? How much is a gram? How much is a gram?  How many pounds are in a kilogram?  1 penny = about 2 ½ grams  1 kilogram = about 2 ½ pounds

6 Mass  Summary: The base unit for measuring mass in the metric system is the gram. One penny equals about 2 ½ grams. Grams are measured with a tool called the Triple Beam Balance.
