2 Picture This: G The Problem: Your assistant principal visits your classroom and notes that you were not using technology during your lesson. You would have been using technology that day if it weren’t for the ten meetings, eight parent phone calls, and foot-high pile of paperwork that kept you from being able to happily surf the net the night before, looking for fabulous web-based activities to integrate into your lesson. 3 What is a WebQuest? G A WebQuest is a student-centered, inquiry-based unit of study, developed by an educator, which challenges students to use web resources to explore a topic.

4 Why Use WebQuests? G WebQuests challenge students to: G Explore given topics G Use web resources G Use higher level thinking skills to discover their own answers to content-related questions G It’s a pre-packaged deal. 6 Introduction G The introduction provides background information. It provides an overview of the learning goals. The purpose of the introduction is to make the activity desirable and fun for the students.

7 Task G The task is a formal description of what students will accomplish by the end of the webquest. This is done by using interesting activities and online resources.

8 Process G This is the description of the steps learners should go through to accomplish the task with links embedded in each step.

9 Evaluation G Each webquest needs a rubric for evaluating students’ work.

10 Conclusion G This step allows for reflection by the students and summarizing by the teacher.

11 Resources G This section consists of a list of the resources, web sites, and print resources that students will need to complete the task.
