Using old maps in the research of transnational ecological networks in Central Europe Analyzing landscape change using historical maps – experiences from Bohemian Switzerland Dr. Jitka Elznicová Dr. Jan Pacina Jan Evangelista Purkyně University, Ústí nad Labem

What have been done in the past – projects overview. Example of project results. Current state. Future scope

Projects overview www.npcs.cz The aim: projects were focused on developing a geodatabase for the cross- border region of the Bohemia–Saxon Switzerland, containing the set of basic and most useful spatial data for the region During the project, the close co-operation between the Faculty of Environment, the Technical University of Dresden and the Leibniz Institute for Ecological and Regional Development in Dresden was established.

Projects overview Project Phare CBC – 11/2002 – 7/2004 Within this project were collected existed geodata on the Czech side, which would be possible to connect with the data on the German side. Actual SPOT data covering both sides of the border have been bought. The following data were collected Historical maps (military survey, topographical maps). Archive aerial photographs (the year 1953, 1968, 1989) Actual geodata (ZABAGED, RZM10, BW orthophoto, geolog. maps, …) SPOT satelite images (the state in 2001 or 2000, and in 2004) Creation of geoinformatics database for cross-border region Bohemia-Saxon Switzerland

Projects overview INTERREG IIIB SISTEMaPARC Data obtained within the project Phare CBC were merged/connected with existing data on the German side. Cross-border dataset layers with unified legend were created. Based on this project and using the acquired data were created several diploma and bachelor thesis together with semestral works processing the desired data.

Example of project results Years 1953 or 1954 Year 1968

Example of project results Archive aerial photograph, land registry Srbská Kamenice and digitised land use data

Example of project results Arable landt area development during1938 - 2002 Road density during 1938 - 2002
