2 THE SLIPPERY SLOPE While the war on terror is necessary to protect our country from future terrorist attacks, the President misled Congress, citizens of the United States, and the entire WORLD to justify the use military forces in Iraq.

3 AGENDA The September 11th attack on America President Bush’s Justification for war CIA’s official report on the weapons of mass destruction The flow of oil from the middle east and its relationship to the war

4 THE DAY THAT SHOOK AMERICA President Bush vowed to hunt down and punish those responsible On September 11th, the U.S. was the victim of a terrorist attack.

5 THE FOCUS SHIFTS TO IRAQ The September 11th attack was used as a springboard into the justification of the war. President Bush claims to know that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction October 7, 2002, President Bush gave a speech outlining the Iraqi threat

6 WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION: TRUE OR NOT TRUE? April 25, 2005, the CIA’s top weapons inspector in Iraq said the hunt for weapons of mass destruction has found nothing. The report states that while they do not have proof of WMD, Iraq “probably” has various dangerous weapons including chemical ammunitions. The report states that Iraq could potentially set up remote facilities to avoid detection or upgrade current facilities to produce the components necessary for the production of nerve agents

11 SUMMARY The purpose of the War in Iraq is to remove a potential threat to the United States and to secure the flow of foreign oil.
