2 Amitabh Harivansh Bachchan is an Indian film actor. He first gained popularity in the early 1970s for movies like Deewar and Zanjeer, and was dubbed India's first "angry young man" for his on-screen roles inn Bollywood, and has since appeared in over 180 Indian films in a career spanning more than four decades. Bachchan is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema. So total was his dominance of the movie scene in the 1970s and 1980s that the French director François Truffaut called him a "one-man industry.

3 Early life Bachchan was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, in north central India. His father Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a Hindi poet and his mother Teji Bachchan was a Punjabi Sikh from Faisalabad, Punjab. Although his surname was Shrivastava, Amitabh's father had adopted the pen name Bachchan ("child- like" in colloquial Hindi), under which he published all of his works. It is with this last name that Amitabh debuted in films and for all other practical purposes, Bachchan has become the surname for all of his immediate family. Bachchan's father died in 2003, and his mother in 2007.

4 EARLY CAREER LIFE Bachchan was rejected from AIR as a radio jockey telling his voice was not good enough, which is an irony because he is quite famous for his voice now. Bachchan made his film debut in 1969 as a voice narrator in Mrinal Sen's National Award winning film Bhuvan Shome. His first acting role was as one of the seven protagonists in the film Saat Hindustani directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas and featuring Utpal Dutt, Anwar Ali Madhu and Jalal Agha. After this he did some films like Bombay to Goa, but he was not recognised by manny. He became a star after his film Zanjeer. From then he did many hit films like Sholay.

5 PATH TO THE STARDOM Amitabh reworked the image of Hindi film hero with hits life Deewar, Sholay, Trishul, Don and many more. He popularize violent melodrama genre but had an equal flair for tragedies (Shakti) and comedies (Chupke Chupke)as well. His status as a demi god was a evident when the entire nation prayed his recovery when he met a fatal injury during the making of Coolie in June, 1982. And now he has done numerous movies and in small screen he is the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati and made debut in TV show Yudh.
