2 When reviewing your peers’ essays look for:
Topic sentences – Underline Specific examples – star Elevated vocabulary – circle Thesis – underline twice

3 Questions to ask: Does the essay answer the question and address all its elements? Does the essay accurately analyze a character or describe a change in the character? Is it structured in a logical manner? (5 paragraph essay style) Is background information clearly given?

4 Questions to ask: Are effective transitions present from idea to idea?
Do all evidence and examples clearly relate to the question asked? Does the conclusion summarize the essay, restate the intro, and have an impactful statement? Are there any grammatical mistakes or sentence fragments?

5 Questions to ask: What are the strengths of the essay?
What are concerns or improvements that can be made? How does it compare with the MCAS Long Composition Rubric?
