People and Life in Space By: Jasmine, Ryan and Hannah

What’s Life in Space Like (Food)  You can eat normal food in space but all the food will be floating around.

What’s Life in Space Like (Clothes)  When the astronauts go into space they wear these orange suits.  When they’re in space they change into normal clothes.  When they go out in outer space they wear their spacesuits.

What’s Life in Space Like (Cleaning)  They don’t use water they either put soap into a towel and put it in their hair or they have a like a tube of soap and put it through their hair.  For using the washroom they use those toilets in airplanes but they have more suction.

What’s Life in Space Like (Sleeping)  The astronauts can sleep anywhere but it’s not good to be floating away.  Some astronauts use a body strap to hold them in the bed.

Canadians Who Have Helped in Space Technology  Lloyd Pinkney- Created the Space Vision System  Chris Hadfield- Helped install the Canadarm2  Julie Payette- In 1998, she was assigned to work on technical issues in robotics for the Astronaut Office.

More Canadians Who Have Helped in Space Technology  Dave Williams- Was in a mission which activated a new system that lets docked Shuttles draw electrical power from the Station to extend visits to the outpost.  Bjarni Tryggvason- Project engineer for the Space Vision System Target Spacecraft.  Steve Maclean- First tested the Space Vision System in 1992.

Technology in Space  The first satellite was launched in 1962.  After that we became the third country in the world to have a satellite built and design by Canadians in space.  It operated for a decade and it made Canadian scientists the leaders in the upper atmosphere.

The Space Vision System  This is designed so astronauts can view the conditions of space.  It provides information on the exact location, position and motion of a specific thing.  This helps astronauts do tasks in the extreme lighting conditions.  Today, it is used on the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station.

Canadarm 1and 2  Canadarm helps astronauts to easily lift shuttles to the space station for repair.  Canadarm 2 helps build things.

Astronauts  Chris Hadfield  Dr. Dave Williams  Dr. Bjarni Tryggvason  Dr. Robert Thirsk Ms. Julie Payette Dr. Steve Maclean

Interesting Facts  During one day in space you’ll experience 16 sunrises.  You grow taller. (5cm to 8cm)  You can stop snoring in space, while you sleep.  The longest time to be in space was 438 days.  Only 3 men have died in space.  Almost every astronaut in space experiences space sickness.  The hardest thing to re-adjust on earth is when you let go of things they fall, they don’t float.
