Matter By:Brooke Ruiz

Matter Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. Their is three states of matter. A solid liquid and gas.

Matter Solid, Liquid, and Gas ☁

Mass Mass is the amount of matter making up an object. An example is a phone case.

Solid A solid is something that you can not bend. It has a defined size and a definite shape. For example iPads. The partials are packed tightly together. They can only vibrate.

Liquid A liquid is something that has no definite shape but has a definite amount. Takes shape of its container. The particles move slowly, but they are more free than a solid.

Gas A gas can take place of anything. The particles are fast and free!!!

Properties A property is something like hard, red, soft, or tiny.

Area Area is how many sq. units it takes to cover a surface. A= LxW

Perimeter Perimeter is when you add all four sides of a object. P=Add all four sides

Volume Volume is how much space an object takes up. V= LxWxH=

Density Density is the amount of matter in a given space. It describes how tightly packed matter is.

Weight Weight is the pull of gravity between a object and Earth.

Reduce To reduce means to not use as much. Some toys are so small that the package is so big.

Reuse To reuse is to use something again instead of throwing it away.

Recycle To recycle means to use something again. You can recycle things like paper glass or plastic.

Element An element is a substance made of only one type of matter. It is the building blocks of matter. Examples: Gold, silver, and oxygen are a few.

Atoms Atoms are the smallest partials of an element. Atoms of one element are all alike, but they are different than another elements atoms.

Mixture A mixture is two or more matter combined. Each one keeps its original chemical properties. A solution is a mixture that is blended completely. Some examples are mixed veggies, salt water, and grape juice. A mixture can be separated. Some ways are you can sort by picking, using a filter, or use evaporation.

Compound A compound forms when two or more elements combined chemically. Each element loses its properties when elements are combined chemically. Some examples are salt, sugar, and rust.

Alloy An alloy is a mixture of two or more elements, at least one of which is a metal. When you mix metal with another element it makes it stronger.

Physical Change A physical change begins and ends with the same type is matter. For example an ice cube is solid water. It the ice cube was crushed into smaller pieces, the type of matter souls not change.

Chemical Change Chemical changes are changes in matter itself. It starts with one type of matter and ends with another. It is also called a chemical reaction.

Review Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. Mass is the a out of matter making up a object. Properties are things like hard, rough, small, or big. Those are just a few. A solid is something that you can not bend. It has a definite size and shape. A gas has no deficit shape or size. It takes place of the container. A liquid has no definite shape has a definite amount. Takes shape of the container. Particles are in solids liquids and gases. Keep going!

An element are the building blocks of matter. An atom are the smallest particles of an element. A mixture is two or more types of matter combined. A compound informed when two or more elements are chemically combined. An alloy is a mixture of two or more elements, at least one of which is a metal. A physical change begins and ends with the same type of matter.

Hope you learned a lot!:)
