Theme The theme of the convention is "The Currency of Heaven", it is derived from Ellen White's counsel in Desire of Ages p. 353: "The servants of Christ are not to act out the dictates of the natural heart. They need to have close communion with God, lest, under provocation, self rise up, and they pour forth a torrent of words that are unbefitting, that are not as dew or the still showers that refresh the withering plants. This is what Satan wants them to do; for these are his methods. It is the dragon that is wroth; it is the spirit of Satan that is revealed in anger and accusing. But God's servants are to be representatives of Him. He desires them to deal only in the currency of heaven, the truth that bears His own image and superscription. The power by which they are to overcome evil is the power of Christ. The glory of Christ is their strength. They are to fix their eyes upon His loveliness. Then they can present the gospel with divine tact and gentleness. And the spirit that is kept gentle under provocation will speak more effectively in favor of the truth than will any argument, however forcible." {DA 353.2}

4. Guest Speaker’s Bio. Ps Steven Conway is Director of Evangelism for C.A.M.P.U.S ministries. CAMPUS is a division of the Michigan Conference of Seventh Day Adventist. He also serves as the pastor of the Campus Hope Fellowship located on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Pastor Conway and his family have served in Michigan for the past four years and count it a privilege to minister to the young and old there. Steven and his wife Tamara have three children Israel 7, Abigail 5, and Gabriel 3 months. Before coming to Michigan the Conway family served in youth pastoral positions in New Jersey and New York as well as teaching at Laurelbrook Academy for four years prior to that. Ps Conway is a close colleague of Ps Randy Skeete, he is the one who recommended the speaker when it became apparent that he would no longer come to our convention. I believe that Ps Conway is the relevant speaker for this convention because of his experience in working with students and young people.

5. What is a Student Convention? Spiritual Convocation for SDA students studying in public institutions. Affords students the opportunity to share experiences, network and develop a strong sense of identity. The SDASM constitutions is amended at this forum every two years. Leadership skills are imparted to students. The objective of SDASM are emphasized. Together we chart a new direction for SDASM. Creates unity and synergy amongst SDA students. Together we study current trends in Adventism and assist to avoid falling victim to dissidents movements. Prepare SDA youth to meet Jesus.
