doc.: IEEE 802.11-14/1253r0 Submission September 2014 Yunsong Yang, HuaweiSlide 2 Abstract This contribution proposes to extend CAG Number concept such that it can be applied to multiple advertisement protocols, including ANQP in 11ai and PADP in 11aq.

doc.: IEEE 802.11-14/1253r0 Submission Introduction TGaq discussed various proposals [1-2] of a concept of Service Update Indicator, which can reduce the number of GAS queries in 11aq Pre- association Discovery Protocol (PADP) in a similar way that the CAG Number concept reduces the number of GAS queries in 11ai. In TGaq straw polls, most TGaq members voted for Option 4 in [2] and the text proposal in [3], as the design is largely compatible with 11ai CAG Number IE while broadening the concept such that it can be applied to multiple advertisement protocols, including ANQP in 11ai and PADP in 11aq. Many TGaq members also expressed their support of an effort to seek harmonization with TGai. doc.: IEEE 802.11-14/1253r0 Submission Proposal of the new CAG Number IE format A CAG Number IE can carry one or more CAG Tuple fields, each including –a CAG Version subfield (same as in 11ai except it is advertisement-protocol-dependent) –a 3-bit Scope subfield (same valid values as in 11ai but a shorter reserved value range) –a 5-bit Partial Advertisement Protocol ID subfield (carrying 5 LSBs of the associated Advertisement Protocol ID). Note that this design is intentionally made to be backward compatible with the current 11ai CAG Number IE design. Otherwise, the Scope and (full) Advertisement Protocol ID subfield can each take a whole octet. September 2014

doc.: IEEE 802.11-14/1253r0 Submission Text changes needed in 11ai Amendment – (1) common text serving both ANQP and PADP Replace “CAG Number” and “CAG Version” with a protocol-neutral terminology globally in 11ai Amendment –For example, Advertisement Protocol Server Configuration Sequence Number (APS- CSN), which is consistent with the style of AP Configuration Sequence Number (AP- CSN) in 11ai. Adopt the new “CAG Number” IE format (as in the previous slide) and the changes in the following subclauses as common text serving both ANQP in 11ai and PADP in 11aq: –Revise 11ai_D2.1 subclause 8.4.2.173 to reflect the new IE format –Revise 11ai_D2.1 subclauses 6.3.3.3.2, 8.3.3.2, 8.3.3.10, 8.4.2.1, mainly replacing the terminology and changing the condition of presence from “if dot11FILSActivated is true” to “if dot11FILSActivated or dot11PADActivated is true”. Full text proposal for the common text in 11ai is in 11-14-xxxx-00-00ai. September 2014

doc.: IEEE 802.11-14/1253r0 Submission Text changes needed in 11ai Amendment – (2) text specific for ANQP Using the current 11ai text in the following subclauses but changing “CAG Number” and “CAG Version” to “APS Configuration Sequence Number” or “APS-CSN”, and changing “CAG” to “APS Configuration” –8.4.4 (11ai_D2.1): terminology changes in Table 8-223 –8.4.4.23 (11ai_D2.1): terminology changes –10.25.3.2.1 (11-14-0813r3): terminology change –10.25.3.2.12 (11-14-0813r3): terminology changes Full text proposal for ANQP-specific text in 11ai is in 11-14-yyyy-00-00ai.
