2  Marbury vs Madison  The Supreme Court can use Judicial Review –to rule on other branches of government.  McCulloch vs. Maryland-  Elastic Clause allows Congress to do more than the Constitution Expresses  Gibbons vs. Ogden – Federal law takes precedent over state law in interstate trade.

3  Boundaries: the Atlantic Coast to the Mississippi River (1803)  Feared Napoleon, French leader, had plans to build empires in Europe and the Americas.  Offers France $15 million for the Louisiana Purchase.  France was in desperate need of $ to finance war with other nations.  This purchase more than doubles the size of the United States.
