1 Dissociative Fugue

2 What is it?  When someone temporarily loses their sense of personal identity  impulsively wander or travel away from their home or work.  They often become confused about who they are and might even create new identities.  People with this disorder show no signs of illness, such as a strange appearance or odd behavior.

3 What causes this?  linked to severe stress, which might be the result of an experience or witness of a traumatic event.  Ex: war, abuse, accidents, disasters, or extreme violence  Use or abuse of drugs/alcohol

4 Treatment  Point is to help the person come to terms with the stress or trauma that triggered the fugue  Psychotherapy  Cognitive therapy  Clinical hypnosis
