4 4 New York State Summer Institutes (NYSSSA) NYS Summer School of the Arts – selections made for all 8 schools, but still a few openings for School of Choral Studies, School of Visual Arts, and School of Media Arts. 5 5 Career and Technical Education (CTE) Perkins IV – One year transition plan due May 7, 2007. CTE Data Collection – Moving from CTEDs to SIRS system with clear definitions. NOCTI Tests – Revised and updated New York State cut scores starting this May. Part of larger program to help teachers prepare students for success.

6 6 Career and Technical Education (CTE) (continued) Title IID – technology grants will be competitive to encourage a more effective use of funds and the creation of consortia around the state. CTE and Teacher Certification – Ongoing meetings with Office of Technology staff to address CTE teacher concerns on certification. 7 7 Adult Education and Workforce Development GED Administration – RFP for New York City will increase capacity and streamline process. ASISTS – Adult Student Information System and Technical Support is a web-based data system starting in 2007-08. Adult Education and Local Workforce Development – 21 NYS Adult Education Program directors are receiving training in new curriculum. www.emsc.nysed.gov/workforce/offices/adult.html

8 8 Curriculum, Instruction and Instructional Technology (CIIT) NY ECLIPSE – Enhancing collaborative leadership for improved performance in science education, Big 5 and four BOCES. Adolescent Literacy Plan – Benchmarking other states and working with the NY Comprehensive Center on best practices and research-based models. ELA Standards Review – Article VII requirement, NY Comprehensive Center assistance in seeking best practices. Social Studies Online Tools – Update Global History and Geography online resources and DBQ tutorial.

9 9 Curriculum, Instruction and Instructional Technology (continued) Middle Level Education – Model B, C1, and C2 applications and guidance revised for 2008. MMGW – Reviewing Making Middle Grades Work school reform model. Physical Education – Final stage of physical education profile. Voluntary use by districts. www.emsc.nysed.gov/ciai/

10 10 Planning and Professional Development Teacher Centers – 131 centers throughout the state for teacher professional development and other assistance. NCLB – Oversight for enhancing teaching quality and innovative education programs. HQ teachers.
