SUNWATER SOLUTIONS’ SOLAR STILL PLAN FOR SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA By: Jason Hickerson

CONTENTS Background and Purpose Our Customer: Sub-Saharan Region of Africa Proposed Product Design/Function Sunwater Solutions Proposed International Location Johannesburg Demographics Final Statement

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Lack of access to clean water is a major worldwide problem affecting 780 million people. Therefore it is planned to develop a water purification product for use in undeveloped areas of the globe. The product must be simple to use, affordable, and pose a low impact on the environment.

OUR CUSTOMER: SUB-SAHARAN REGION OF AFRICA 345 million people in this region lack access to clean water. This number represents about half of the total world population without access to clean water. Lack of access to clean water results in other complicating issues such as decreased sanitation, decreased income, decreased education levels, and a general loss of time with family. These issues result from the massive amount of time that must be spent carrying water from the generally unclean water sources to the family dwelling.

PROPOSED PRODUCT DESIGN/FUNCTION The proposed product is a solar still for the distillation of clean drinking water. The product relies on the natural processes of evaporation and condensation, no chemicals and/or filters are needed. During evaporation particulates are left behind, microbes are eliminated by the Sun’s UV radiation. The base container will be black in color and will be constructed of stamped aluminum for strength, light weight, and durability. The cover/evaporation collector will be constructed of Plexiglas in an extruded aluminum frame. Plexiglas G-UVT will be used, it features a high level of UV transmission.

PROPOSED PRODUCT DESIGN/FUNCTION Presented below is a concept drawing of the proposed product.

SUNWATER SOLUTIONS A private company that partners with various charitable organizations to provide water purification products to impoverished areas. Our U.S. location can be found in Maysville, KY. It is a 112,500 square foot facility located on the AA Highway about 60 miles from Cincinnati, OH. The property was acquired for $1,750,000. Processes at the facility include stamping, trimming/cutting, and general assembly.

SUNWATER SOLUTIONS Presented below is the general layout of our U.S. manufacturing facility.

PROPOSED INTERNATIONAL LOCATION Plans are underway to open an international location to handle final assembly and distribution. It has been to decided to locate this facility on the African continent in closer proximity to those for which the products are intended. A potential facility has been located in Johannesburg, South Africa. The facility is located in the Aeroton suburb and is priced at R10,000,000 South African Rand, or approximately $939,000 U.S. dollars. The facility is 2,000 square meters (21,500 square feet) in size of which 300 square meters (3200 square feet) is office space. Features include grade level loading docks, a security system, and a palisade perimeter fence.

JOHANNESBURG DEMOGRAPHICS The population of Johannesburg is 3.2 million, broken down as follows: 73% Black Africans, 16% White, 6% Coloureds, and 4% Asian. The unemployment rate is 37%, of which 91% is Black Africans. Among the working population 43% are women; 12% of employed individuals work in manufacturing. Among adults 29% possess a high school education and 14% have higher education. The average household income in Johannesburg is R31,048 South African Rand, which is about $2,917 U.S. dollars. Among households in Johannesburg 80% have electricity and 86% have running water. 22% of Johannesburg residents live in informal dwellings.

FINAL STATEMENT Johannesburg presents an opportunity for Sunwater Solutions to help improve the quality of life in Johannesburg. We could provide employment to the otherwise unemployable while assisting those in the Sub-Saharan region with water purification products. This would be in the humanitarian spirit of the company and its charitable partners.
