Sixth Grade Stuff

As a sixth grader you are required to save all of your work in your personal folder. To do this you must log onto the server using your name and password.

What’s the big deal? It’s my stuff! 1.You can waste a lot of time looking for your stuff in shared files. 2.Other people can “accidentally” delete or alter your stuff in shared files. 3.The 6 th grade teachers won’t grade your stuff in shared files.

Who’s Messin’ with your stuff? Everyone has access to your stuff in shared files. Only you and your teachers have access to your stuff in your personal file.

You, at recess time, looking for your stuff in shared files.

You re-doing your work, because it “accidentally” was deleted from shared files, or you just can’t find it in shared files.

Irritated teachers looking for your assignment that is not where it is suppose to be!

So…

When you first sit down at any computer in the building you should see this screen. If you do not, you will need to log off and log in as yourself.

Click on the Start button

Click on Log Off

Now you should see this cool little box!

To log onto the server use the first two letters of your first name, your last name and a period. Then …

… type in the word student and double check that everything is spelled correctly.

Click in the password box and type in your five character password. Then click the OK button.

Now that you are logged on, open the program that you will be working with. For example Word.

You must save and name your work before you even begin typing. This is extremely important because most work is lost when you run out of time and rush to save it at the end of class. So……

Now you are ready to work on your stuff for sixth grade!
