1 Buildurz Cedric Kwon, Cade Signorelli, Gage Hoiseth, and Canyin Sadler

2 Purpose The purpose of our project is to determine what areas of the Hancock College area need more water. We will also find out the amount of people compared to the amount of plant life. We will analyze the different species of plants in this area also.

3 Background We expected that the Allan Hancock area will have a few areas that are dry and need water, and we will find those areas and make sure that they get the treatment they need. The areas in the soccer area in which are already green and healthy we will leave alone. We will calculate the percentage of squares with a grid, which have green versus yellow and brown. For our camera, we have found a 2.4GHz Wireless Color/IR Video kit that contains an infrared camera.

4 Hypothesis and Tests Hypothesis A1: We expect to find about 85% of green, living plants, and 15% of dead ones. Hypothesis A2: We expect to find about 35% of people versus open spaces. Hypothesis B: We will divide the plants and people into different percentages. Trees in one section, grass in the other, and people.

5 Hypothesis and Tests(continued) We will record a video with the camera and a small television to find how much plant life there is. We will go up to a thousand feet to get the maximum view of the area. If our data was, say, 25% living and 75% dead plants, then, of course, we would say our hypothesis was wrong. However, if the data was close to 85%, which it was, then we would say it was only slightly inaccurate.

6 Results Green plant life: 95%; 325,000 ft. sq. Dead plant life: 3%; 60.8 ft. sq. People: 2%; 43 ft. sq.

7 Analysis Because there is only 5% of dead plant life and 95% of green, plant life, we can say that Allan Hancock College took care of their plants very well. We suggest, from our results, that Allan Hancock waters and grows more plants near the sides, where there is more dead life.

8 Conclusion Our hypothesis was inaccurate. Instead of 85% of living plant life and 15% of dead plant life, there was 95% of green life. We expected that people would cover about 35%, but instead people only covered 2%! However, our results were sometimes estimated and would be slightly incorrect. If we had time to do another run, we would measure and accurately calculate distances.
