4 Rome - June 27, 2003 Productivity, Competitiveness and the New Economy ICT PRODUCTS DEFINITION The classification includes 222 commodities, clustered in six categories 1.Telecommunications equipment 2.Consumer electronics 3.Computers 4.Electronic components 5.Office machinery 6.Instruments and equipment for detecting, measuring, checking and controlling physical phenomena or processes

5 Rome - June 27, 2003 Productivity, Competitiveness and the New Economy The data sources Each method implies a different use of statistical information taken from the COE database. According to the first method to define ICT sector we use statistical information grouped by individual economic traders, while to define ICT products we use statistical information referred to all goods classified by the CN8 (Combined Nomenclature) code and traded by individual economic traders ASIA database: ISTAT micro files on all active enterprises COE database: ISTAT micro files on international trade
