Senior Design SD1107 Solar Module Observation Device Students:Collin Howe, CprE Jacob Rasmuson, CprE Arthur Fiester, CprE Alex Rannow, EE Timothy Fox, EE Academic Advisor: Dr. Ahmed E. Kamal Client: PowerFilm Solar, Inc. Client Representative: Brad Jensen SD1107 - Solar Module Observation Device

System Overview SD1107 - Solar Module Observation Device PowerFilm wishes to have a remote measurement device to monitor the status of a solar device. This will allow users to observe real-time and logged data directly from a smartphone.

Schematic: Microcontroller and Bluetooth Transceiver SD1107 - Solar Module Observation Device

PCB Layout: MSP430+PAN1315

Completed Tasks Project plan & design document Technology Selection Detailed Design including all schematics Acquired evaluation components and development tools Tested and verified the sampling circuitry modules Android Application development Project Status SD1107 - Solar Module Observation Device

Current Tasks Build prototype board on PCB Integration development and testing Establish Bluetooth connectivity Verify Bluetooth meets requirements Integrate sampling circuitry with microprocessor and test End product testing and debugging Current/Future Tasks SD1107 - Solar Module Observation Device

Bluetooth Implementation SD1107 - Solar Module Observation Device Old Solution: MindTree Bluetooth stack on TI MSP430 Problem: Licensing issue with microprocessor. As of 3 weeks ago, solution was deprecated and support was practically dropped. New Solution: BTStack on TI MSP430 Advantages: Open source (infinitely modifiable and no license issues) Proven to work on our current hardware. Development is currently in progress

Completed Testing Simulated measurement circuitry in SPICE Test measurement circuitry standalone Development environment hardware for development board Detailed Design including all schematics Android application Bluetooth-to-PC Connection Remaining Schedule Test hardware module integration Test ADC measurements on final board for function/accuracy Test final board along with solar panels (provided by PowerFilm) Testing SD1107 - Solar Module Observation Device

Project Success Criteria SD1107 - Solar Module Observation Device Fully Successful: Product prototype works as desired and fulfills all requirements Mostly Successful: Primary features such as: Bluetooth connectivity, Android app, and Sensing circuitry function correctly. Minor features left out, such as data logging in the Android app. Partially Successful: Two of three primary features implemented and functional. Not Successful: One or less of the primary features implemented and functional.
