Level 1 - FOUNDATION COACH Module Objectives and Learning At the end of this module you will understand the following: How a game of bowling is played How to score a strike How to score a spare The basics of league play How to score a game FUNdamentals Instructor

Level 1 - FOUNDATION COACH BOWLING GAME: Scoring 1 game of bowling consists of 10 “frames”. 1 “frame” gives a bowlers 2 shots to knock ten pins over If all ten pins are knocked over on the first shot a player has achieved a STRIKE – indicated by a X on the score sheet When it takes two shots to knock all ten pins over the player has achieved a SPARE– indicated by a / on the score sheet All other scores are recorded as the number knocked over. A miss is indicated by a – on the score sheet. 12345678910 81 63 7 9- 6 54 81 92837566585100109137156 8+28+37+56+65+85+100+109+137+ 8+110+6+36+37+3+99+010+6+46+4+55+410+10+810+8+1 FUNdamentals Instructor

Level 1 - FOUNDATION COACH BOWLING GAME: Scoring When a STRIKE is scored you must wait for TWO more shots to be played before scoring that frame, i.e. In frame one (above) a strike was scored and then the next two shots were 8 and 2 (spare), so the score in frame one is 10+8+2 = 20 When a SPARE is scored you must wait for ONE more shot to be played before scoring that frame, i.e. In frame two (above) a spare was scored and then the next one shot was 8, so the score for frame two is the total from the previous frame (20 in this case) + 8+2+8 = 38 When neither a strike nor a spare is achieved then just the number of pins knocked over are added to the running total. 12345678910 8 8 9 637 8 8 20385888117137153162180198 20+38+58+88+117+137+153+162+180+ 10+8+28+2+88+2+1010+10+1010+10+910+9+19+1+66+37+3+88+2+8 FUNdamentals Instructor

Level 1 - FOUNDATION COACH BOWLING GAME: Scoring The maximum score possible in one game of tenpin bowling is 300. This is achieved by bowling 12 strikes in succession. In the tenth frame it is possible to get 3 strikes. If a strike is scored on the first ball, the player gets TWO more shots, so this could be two more strikes. If they strike once and then fail to strike then they get the chance to knock over the “spare” pins. You would score 10+pins+pins (maximum 20).If they strike twice and then fail to strike they score 10+10+pins (i.e. 20-30max) If a player gets a spare in the tenth frame they get ONE more shot. e.g. 9 spare 8 (9+1+8) = 18 12345678910 306090120150180210240270300 30+60+90+120+150+180+210+240+270+ 10+10+10 FUNdamentals Instructor

Level 1 - FOUNDATION COACH League Bowling League Bowling is an organised way of competing regularly against other bowlers, individually or in teams of 2,3,4 or 5 people. Normally each league match is competed over ONE SERIES (3 games) but sometimes more. Points are awarded based on either team basis, or individual and team basis. Leagues can be scratch, handicap or both. FUNdamentals Instructor
