1 East Africa Where the Swahili roam the lands of their ancestors

2 Swahili Culture  The Swahili are an ethic group that was created from mixing African and Arabic ways.  Most people living in East Africa are Swahili.  Nearly 2,000 years ago, Arab traders settled on the coast of East Africa.  People who followed the African culture took to the Arab Culture

3 Languages  Their language is a Bantu language that has many Arabic words  Although children in schools are educated in Swahili, they learn English as well  East Africa has many ethnic groups who speak different languages.  It is not strange for people in a region to know more than three or more languages.

4 Religion  In East Africa, religious beliefs reflect on the cultural diversity of the region  Both Islam and Christianity have a big impact on the people there  Islam was first introduced by Arab traders  Christanity entered Ethiopia in the A.D 300’s
