U1C2 Review Sheet
3
U1C2A1 1. When two objects interact, they act on or influence each other to cause an effect. List at least 5 changes that provide evidence that an interaction has occurred. Change in: motion, sound, color, shape, size, illumination, etc.
5
U1C2A3 3. Think back to the tape experiment. Did the interaction change when the sticky side of the tape was near the suspended charge, and then the non- sticky side of the tape was near this same suspended charge? No, the interaction was the same for both sides of the tape.
6
U1C2A4 4. What is needed for an electric circuit interaction? Power Source (like a cell), electrical device (like a bulb), conducting wires to connect, and a complete circuit (the electric current is running continuously).
7
U1C2A4 5. If you had a bulb and a cell connected in circuit, what could you add to the circuit that would make the bulb dimmer? What could you add to make the bulb brighter? To make the bulb dimmer, add another bulb in a series (same loop) circuit. To make the bulb brighter, add another cell
8
U1C2A4 6. Draw a series and a parallel circuit that includes one cell and two light bulbs. Describe what would happen to one of the bulbs when you unscrewed the second bulb in each circuit.
9
U1C2A5 7. Think back to the U1C2A5 where your teacher showed you a coil of wire connected to a cell and the coil was near a magnetic compass. What would make the interaction of the coil with the compass needle stronger? What would make the interaction weaker? To make the interaction between a compass (magnet) and a coil of wire connected to a cell stronger, insert a magnetic material into the coil and/or add more cells To make the interaction weaker, add another electrical device (like a bulb) in series, or disconnect from cell
10
U1C2A6 8. What is the relationship between electric current and the number of degrees that the needle rotates? (refer to RS U1C2A6) As the electric current increases the number of degrees the compass needle deflects/moves increases.
11
U1C2A6 9. Look at the picture on PA U1C2A6 (p 81) and explain why the axle in the motor spins rapidly. Re-read the first two paragraphs on p.81 as well. An electromagnetic interaction occurs between the current in the coil of wire and the permanent magnets causing the axle/fan blade to spin. The coils are connected to the axle.
12
10. Define the following: –Manipulated variable: variable changed on purpose in an experiment; aka Independent Variable –Responding variable: variable measured in an experiment, it responds to manipulated change; Dependent Variable –Controlled variable: variables that are kept the same in an experiment
13
11. What is required for a good conclusion? No opinions All of the data (all numbers from the table)
