2 Labour Party Ideology Considered to be more left than both the Conservative Party and Liberal Democrat Party(ranges from Socialism to social democrat) Gained its socialist commitment from its initial constitution of 1918; the party’s strongest advocates for the socialist commitment believed in the “common wealth” of the “means of production, distribution and exchange.” Historically, believed in the redistribution of wealth and government playing a large role in the economy; taxes seen as a means of redistributing wealth. Also, the party, like most parties in the United Kingdom’s government, promote a welfare state and government funded healthcare But the party adopted free market policies after 1980s, and these policies were reinforced by former Prime Minister Tony Blair

Economic Policies: Raising the minimum wage Propose a budget before the House of Commons every year to cut the deficit Lowering taxes for the middle/lower class Creation of green jobs Education and Health Policies: Offer better treatment opportunities for mental health patients Increased investment in health infrastructure Repeal healthcare privatization Guarantee qualified teachers Double the length of paternity leave and increase pay Governance Policies: Establish a Constitutional Convention to determine the future of UK governance (membership in the EU) Replace the House of Lords with a Senate of Nations and Regions An elected Senate from the English, Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish regions instead of constituencies like MPs Give voting rights to 16 and 17 year olds Require large corporations to publish their gender pay gap Miscellaneous: Establish a Centre for Universal Health Coverage Promote a policy of net-zero emissions at the Paris Climate Summit

The Labour Party has the second highest number of Members of Parliament, making it the Shadow Government. The Labour Party is declining, losing twenty six seats this year. The Labour Party has just under one hundred less MPs in the House of Commons with 232 MPs.
