7  Buttress roots  The tallest trees have buttress roots to stop them toppling over.

8  Lianas  Lianas are vine like plants they use large trees as a support to climb up to the sunlight.

9  The forest floor is very dark and damp. Only 2% of sunlight reaches the floor.

10  Some trees grow to over 40 metres in order to reach sunlight.  These trees are called emergents.

11  Species like the FERN have adapted to life in the shade by growing large leaves which can catch a lot of sunlight.
