Revisit staffing options NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer/URI Inner Space Center Staffing Meeting V December 1, 2006 Physical scientists vs. ET’s/Sonar Techs Corps officer billets - Flexible Ocean Exploration grad degree program at URI - Combination land/sea assignments Contracting Training/educational opportunities
20
Potential overlap in Mission Specific Skills and Expertise ROV pilots and engineers – Contractors may fill positions at first, with knowledge, skills and abilities developed within the core ship crew over time. Video/Satellite technicians and Data specialists – Positions can be filled with a combination of new hires, contractors, NOAA physical scientists, ET’s, and survey technicians. There is potential for one or more of these positions to rotate between the ISC. ROV Navigators – Positions would be best suited to NOAA Corps officers who have had at least one tour of sea duty, preferably trained through the Office of Coast Survey. Sonar technicians –Positions can be filled with a combination of ET’s, survey technicians, NOAA physical scientists, and NOAA Corps officers trained by the Office of Coast Survey.
