11  TIMED TEST  All Reading Test questions are multiple choice and based on passages.  Some passages are paired with other passages.  Informational graphics, such as tables, graphs, and charts, accompany some passages — but no math is required.  Prior topic-specific knowledge is never tested.  The Reading Test is part of the Evidence- Based Reading and Writing section.

14  TIMED TEST  Most math questions will be multiple choice, but some — called grid-ins — ask you to come up with the answer rather than select the answer.  The Math Test is divided into two portions: Math Test – Calculator and Math Test – No Calculator.  Some parts of the test include several questions about a single scenario

16 Question Types: The same, except the PSAT/NMSQT does not have an essay component. Length: The PSAT/NMSQT is 2 hours, 50 minutes. The SAT is 3 hours, 45 minutes. Level of Difficulty: The PSAT/NMSQT does not have 11 th grade-level math questions.

28 Take the practice test [TIME YOURSELF] in the Official Student Guide to the PSAT/NMSQT. Understand scoring! Familiarize yourself with the test’s format, questions types, and directions.

29 When you sit down to take the test: Read all of the directions. Read all of each question’s answer choices. Do scratch work in the test book. Work at a steady pace…….REMEMBER IT’S TIMED! Remember: Go ahead and give your best answer to every question — there’s no advantage to leaving them blank.
