Human health working group Main points from the discussions Galia Guentchev

Needs and gaps Station data; county level data; census level data is needed Additional variables – Humidity – Solar radiation – Wind – Drought indices, Standard Precipitation Index etc. Process evaluation is of interest in relation to heat events Ensembling of the results is needed Guidance on what are the good datasets to use for a given question and area of interest

Nutrition labels For observed data – whether the data are homogeneous; – QC information – what kinds QC was performed; – Elevation and location for the station; – sometimes the same station is renamed several times – why it was renamed; – what other variables are available from a given station; – timeline of available data from a station;

Nutrition label for gridded data What types of sources were used in the development of the datasets How good are the gridded data compared to nearby stations Description of the method What the data should not be used for and caution statements for the usage of the data

Nutrition label for downscaled data About dynamical models – whether they have lakes – what is the implication for health – how the topography is represented – land cover – urban characteristics; Probably different nutrition labels are needed for different questions and applications;

Additions to the available tools Information related to the groups of maps – – a sentence or two about what do the maps mean and when there are white spaces does it mean that the bias is 0 or there in no data there Absolute indices are needed On a website to have the reviews for the datasets with a rating system To have a walk through of the sequence for interpretation of the US results – a tutorial that would guide you through what do the results mean? – So what? What to do about the impact assessment using the evaluation results?

Education About the need of downscaling and downscaling methods – Advantages and disadvantages of dynamical and statistical methods About considerations that need to be made regarding the use of downscaled climate information for impact assessments – Do you actually need downscaled information? How the information about the evaluation of the downscaling methods would help with interpreting future projections There is an interest in a human health paper that will contain guidance and steps of the analysis for a climate change question;

Future focus NCPP to work with the RISAs, state climatologists Ecological perspective for human impacts would be needed
