1 Key Events We learn of Henry’s fear of being time travelled to “The Cage”. Henry is confronted by his Boss about his “Disappearances”. Clare sees Henry time travelled into the future for the first time. Henry is 8. Henry tracks down Dr Kendrick, The Doctor doesn’t believe Henry, so Henry gives him his unborn son’s birth certificate in an envelope, asking that he opens it on the day of his son’s birth. Dr Kendrick’s son is born and he phones Henry to arrange a meeting The Meeting ends badly with Kendrick feeling no sympathy or need to help Henry and his Chrono-impairment. Henry leaves and disappears outside Kendrick’s building. Kendrick sees this and goes to speak to Claire. Meanwhile Henry has time-travelled to his 8 year old self's bedroom and they discuss the inability of the medical profession to believe their story. Henry then re-appears where he disappeared around 15 minutes later further reinforcing Kendrick's belief. Clare and Henry depart, leaving Kendrick curious and wanting to help. They arrange to meet and Henry tells Kendrick everything. Kendrick takes a blood sample to analyse chromosomes and suggests MRI,CAT and X-ray scans. Kendrick appears to be fascinated by this Mystery.

2 Relationships We see that Henry is quite close friends with his colleague Matt, who either knows about the time-travelling or just knows of his naked runs through the stacks of books. Almost gets Fired by his Boss Roberto. “ you can be quite…competent. But this just will not do”. Clare good friends with Kimy. Clare and Henry discuss the ethics of exploiting there situation in order to convince Dr Kendrick. Clare doesn’t agree with it. Henry meets Kendrick for the first time. They Begin a professional Doctor/Patient Relationship. “we are strangers again after the intimacies of the afternoon”.

3 Key Quotes “If you weren't Brilliant” and “you can be quite…competent”- This show that’s Henry is good at his as a Librarian and explains Roberto’s unwillingness to fire Henry. “He will be my doctor because in the future he is my doctor”- Links with the theme of Fate or determinism. It is inevitable that Dr Kendrick will become interested and begin to work with Henry. Henry knows this and this gives him confidence. “I travel to my wife’s past, I write down the information in this envelope. She gives it to me when we meet in the present”- Ontological Paradox. The Information still exists although it has been transported through time. “Dasein”- A German word used by philosophers to mean “existence”. “It doesn’t seem fair” and “Nature isn’t fair”- Clare and Henry discuss the ethical consequences of using Henry’s ability to their advantage. Clare seems to be more annoyed with this than Henry, interrupting him and saying “Well, it’s too late, anyway”. I think this is because Henry accepts that this is all “Fate” and this is how it is meant to pan out. “It wasn’t a matter of choice” supports this view. “But you didn’t. I won’t go as far as to say you couldn’t”- Another quote to support the Determinism argument. The Baby was going to be called Colin, it was “Fate”.

4 Key Quotes Continued “My wife and I are Catholic, so I imagine the end result would be the same”- Yet another quote to do with the theme of Determinism. Even if they had the right scan results, the baby would have still been born and Henry would remain correct. “It would be quite handy for you” and “It’s dangerous”- This shows Dr Kendrick as an outsider to the realm of time-travel and he displays the view that most normal people would also support. That time-travel would be cool or useful. However Henry warns of its danger as a sufferer of this Chrono-impairment. “We went to see another doctor today”- Henry at the age of 8 has already seen many doctors, all of whom fail to believe him and his stories of time travel. Even the adult Henry cannot convince doctors of his impairment. “Clare, let’s vamoose. This is pointless” and “We’re used to taking chances. Goodbye”- This shows Henry’s annoyance at Dr Kendrick for not believing him and also this shows Henry making sure that Dr Kendrick is interested in his condition. “I want to take it all back and leave, excuse him from the burden of having to think about any of this”- Henry feels guilty for having to share his traumatic life experiences with another person. Doesn’t want people to feel sad because of his Impairment. “It is fun”, “Whatever it is. Whatever you are”, “What am I? What am I?”- Dr Kendrick treats this as a medical puzzle or mystery, acting rather light-hearted about it. Henry seems to be moved by Kendrick “Whatever you are” statement and begins to wonder of his Identity and his role in the World.
