The European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM) – Business Rules

EUROCONTROL's Efforts with AIXM 2 AIXM 4.5

EUROCONTROL's Efforts with AIXM 3 Why necessary Additional constraints on values of properties Based on ICAO standards and recommended practices Based on local practices Based on common sense Etc. Objective Identify non-compliance with rules Identify potentially incorrect data Prevent automated systems from receiving unexpected values

EUROCONTROL's Efforts with AIXM 4 AIXM 5.1 Business rules Detached from the model itself Because they are dynamic Because they are system specific Business rules for AIXM 4.5 must be adapted to AIXM 5.1 as data provider systems will gradually move towards AIXM 5 AIXM 5 does no longer specify mandatory properties or associations for a feature. Now to be specified as business rules Opportunity to capture more rules from existing standards

EUROCONTROL's Efforts with AIXM 5 AIXM 5.1 Business rules Current status: Defined a draft set of AIXM 5.1 business rules based on: AIXM 4.5 business rules ICAO Annex 10, 11, 14 and 15 and the ICAO PANS-OPS Temporality Concept document (including PropertiesWithSchedule) Activation/Usage concept AIXM GML Guidelines Arinc424-A specification Compliance with SVBR v1.0 specification Provided as a proof-of-concept an implementation of these rules in Schematron language Upgraded Eurocontrol’s tool ARC which performs Schematron validation of AIXM data

EUROCONTROL's Efforts with AIXM 6 SBVR specification SBVR = Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Business Rules defines the vocabulary and rules for documenting the semantics of business vocabularies, business facts, and business rules. It identifies two types of business rules Structural rules Operative rules AIXM 5 has adopted this terminology and identifies the following business rules: AIXM Structural rules: the enumerations of values (datatypes) AIXM Operative rules: rules extracted from official documents (ICAO Annexes), minimum data rules, consistency rules, recommended practices, coding rules…

EUROCONTROL's Efforts with AIXM 7 Applying SVBR in an AIXM 5.1 context Syntactic check Semantic check AIXM 5.1 UML AIXM 5.1 XML Airport features AIXM 5.1 XSD Structural Rules Operative Rules How to encode these rules ?

EUROCONTROL's Efforts with AIXM 8 1 st AIXM 5.1 Business Rules Report A contract was awarded in December 2009. The result of this work is an Excel reportExcel report Containing textual rules classified by type etc… Providing Schematron code AIXM Users are able to pick-up the rules they need for their systems

EUROCONTROL's Efforts with AIXM 9 ARC Tool

EUROCONTROL's Efforts with AIXM 10 AIXM 5.1 implementation in EAD Need to consolidate the initial set of AIXM 5.1 Business Rules Progressive refinement, in parallel with the implementation Bring together AIXM 5.1 draft business rules Digital NOTAM specific rules (see Event Specification) Other EAD specific data verification rules Eurocontrol has decided to reuse a tool developed by Pulsar Consulting (BRM)
