Complex Rational Expressions, Equations
2
Complex Rational Expression = fraction which will contain at least one rational expression in the numerator OR denominator Example
3
How to simplify complex rational expressions 1) Combine fractions in numerator and denominator separately 2) Multiply by the reciprocal of the denominator 3) Look for and cancel any like terms
4
Important Rule Remember…
5
Example. Simplify: First, combine the parts in the numerator What is the reciprocal of the denominator?

Example. Simplify:
7
Rational Equations Rational Equation = equation with at least one rational expression Similar to solving equations, we want to try and use the least common multiple, get rid of any fractions Always (!) check for restrictions
8
Example. Solve: What is the LCM of both sides?
