3 | 3 then GNSO Final Report on new gTLDs in 2007, which provided Principles, Recommendations, and Implementation Guidelines The implementation occurred via Applicant Guidebook, developed iteratively with community input. Policy Development / Implementation New gTLD Program Program launched in January 2012, receiving 1930 complete applications In March of 2013, first sets of Initial Evaluation results released, with all results released by May of 2014 As of 18 Sept 2015, ~750 TLDs have been delegated, with <600 still proceeding through the program. 5 | 5 Planning for the Next Round - Where Are We Now, cont. The community felt that analysis and discussion of the 2012 round of the New gTLD Program could begin and the GNSO Council formed a Discussion Group (DG) in June 2014 to discuss experiences gained from the 2012 round and identify subjects for a future issue report that might lead to changes or adjustments for subsequent application procedures. With the DG completing its work in June 2015, the GNSO Council considered the DG’s final deliverables and resolved to request a Preliminary Issue Report on New gTLD Subsequent Procedures, using the deliverables as the basis for research and analysis. 6 | 6 What’s In the Preliminary Issue Report Overall Process / Support / Outreach Issues Predictability, community engagement, applications assessed in rounds, support for applicants from developing countries, etc. 1 2 Legal / Regulatory Issues Base contract, registrant protections, registrar non- discrimination, global public interest, closed generics, etc. 3 String Contention / Objections & Disputes String similarity, objections, accountability mechanisms, community applications, etc. 4 Internationalized Domain Names Internationalized Domain Names and Universal Acceptance. 5 Technical and Operations Security and stability, applicant reviews, and name collisions.
